Koran Angelfish (Pomacanthus semicirculatus)

Description:

Behavior: The Koran Angelfish, also known as the Semicircle Angelfish, is a striking species known for its bold presence and somewhat territorial nature. While generally peaceful, it can become aggressive towards other angelfish and similarly sized tankmates, especially in smaller aquariums.

Color: The Koran Angelfish undergoes a dramatic transformation in coloration as it matures. Juveniles are dark blue with vibrant, electric blue and white semicircular stripes. As they grow, these stripes give way to an adult coloration of a greenish-blue body with irregular, labyrinth-like patterns and a yellowish tail.

Diet: Koran Angelfish are omnivores with a preference for a varied diet. They thrive on a mix of high-quality angelfish preparations, marine algae, and meaty foods like mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Regular feedings of sponges and tunicates will help mimic their natural diet and promote optimal health and coloration.

Tankmates: Koran Angelfish can be housed with a variety of other marine species, including tangs, wrasses, and larger, non-aggressive fish. It is advisable to avoid keeping them with other large angelfish or overly aggressive species to prevent territorial disputes.

Reef Aquarium Compatibility: Koran Angelfish are not considered reef-safe. They have a tendency to nip at soft corals, stony corals, and invertebrates, making them unsuitable for most reef aquariums. They are best kept in a fish-only setup.

Max Size: Koran Angelfish can grow up to 15 inches (38 cm) in length. Due to their size and active nature, they require a spacious aquarium of at least 180 gallons to thrive and maintain good water quality.

Origin: Koran Angelfish are commonly found in the Indo-Pacific region, with notable populations around the reefs of the Indian Ocean, including Sri Lanka, Indonesia, and the Maldives.

Sexual Dimorphism: Koran Angelfish do not exhibit significant sexual dimorphism, making it difficult to distinguish males from females based solely on appearance.
