Flame Angelfish (Centropyge loricula)

Description:

Behavior: The Flame Angelfish is a vibrant and active species known for its fiery colors and bold personality. These fish are generally peaceful but can become territorial, especially towards other dwarf angelfish. They thrive in well-structured environments with plenty of hiding spots and open swimming areas.

Color: The Flame Angelfish is visually stunning, featuring a body adorned with bright orange to red coloration, accented with vertical black bars along the sides and a hint of blue on the dorsal and anal fins. This vivid coloration makes them a standout in any marine aquarium.

Diet: Flame Angelfish are omnivores and thrive on a varied diet. They do well on a mix of high-quality flake food, pellets, and frozen foods such as brine shrimp and mysis shrimp. Including marine algae or spirulina in their diet helps maintain their health and vibrant coloration. Providing a varied diet helps maintain their health and vibrant coloration.

Tankmates: Flame Angelfish are generally peaceful and can be housed with a variety of other non-aggressive marine species. Suitable tankmates include clownfish, gobies, tangs, and other peaceful fish. This fish can be kept with other angelfish of the same genus. It is advisable to introduce them all at the same time to an appropriately sized aquarium, usually 5 feet or longer. Ensure that algae and other food are not lacking to minimize aggression problems.

Reef Aquarium Compatibility: Flame Angelfish are considered reef-safe with caution. They may occasionally nip at corals and sessile invertebrates, so careful monitoring is required when adding them to a reef aquarium. Providing ample food and maintaining good water quality can help mitigate this behavior.

Max Size: Flame Angelfish can grow up to 4 inches (10 cm) in length. Due to their active nature and peaceful behavior, they require a spacious aquarium of at least 30 gallons for juveniles, with larger tanks being necessary as they grow.

Origin: Flame Angelfish are commonly found in the Indo-Pacific region, particularly around the waters of the Great Barrier Reef, the central Pacific, and the Hawaiian Islands.

Sexual Dimorphism: Flame Angelfish do not exhibit significant sexual dimorphism, making it difficult to distinguish males from females based solely on appearance.
