Bluefin Angelfish (Centropyge multispinis)

Description:

Behavior: The Bluefin Angelfish is a hardy and active species known for its bold personality. These angelfish are generally peaceful but can exhibit territorial behavior, especially in smaller aquariums. They do well in well-structured environments with plenty of hiding spots and live rock to graze on.

Color: The Bluefin Angelfish is visually striking, featuring a dark blue to almost black body with bright blue edging on its dorsal and anal fins. The contrast between the dark body and the electric blue fin edges makes this fish a captivating addition to any marine aquarium.

Diet: Bluefin Angelfish are omnivores with a varied diet. In captivity, they thrive on a mix of high-quality angelfish preparations, marine algae, and meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Providing a varied diet helps maintain their health and vibrant coloration.

Tankmates: Bluefin Angelfish can be somewhat territorial, especially in smaller tanks. They are generally compatible with a variety of other marine fish, including peaceful species and larger, non-aggressive fish. Suitable tankmates include tangs, wrasses, and clownfish. This fish can be kept with other angelfish of the same genus. It is advisable to introduce them all at the same time to an appropriately sized aquarium, usually 5 feet or longer. Ensure that algae and other food are not lacking to minimize aggression problems.

Reef Aquarium Compatibility: Bluefin Angelfish are considered reef-safe with caution. While they generally do not harm corals, they may occasionally nip at soft corals and sessile invertebrates. Monitoring their behavior and ensuring they are well-fed can help minimize the risk of unwanted coral nipping.

Max Size: Bluefin Angelfish typically grow to about 5 inches (12.5 cm) in length. While they can be initially housed in a 30-gallon aquarium, they will require a larger tank as they grow. A spacious aquarium of at least 70 gallons is recommended for adult Bluefin Angelfish to thrive and maintain good water quality.

Origin: Bluefin Angelfish are commonly found in the Indo-Pacific region, including the waters around the Maldives, Sri Lanka, and the Great Barrier Reef.

Sexual Dimorphism: Bluefin Angelfish do not exhibit significant sexual dimorphism, making it difficult to distinguish males from females based solely on appearance.
